Q. What is assisted living?

A. Assisted Living at Mennowood is a one bedroom or studio apartment that includes all meals, housekeeping, and laundry, as well as level 1 nursing care. Level 1 nursing care includes all medication management, checks by the nursing staff every two hours, and basic cueing and reminding to help our residents through their day. Additional hands-on nursing care is available in assisted living at higher care levels for additional fees. 

Q. What is memory care?

A. Memory Care at Mennowood is a studio apartment that looks and feels just like our assisted living apartments, however doors to the outside are secured. Memory care is specially designed for residents with advanced dementia who may become confused and try to leave the building. Families are encouraged to visit their loved ones in memory care any time they wish and are free to take their loved one out whenever they’d like.

Q. What is independent living?

A. Independent Living at Mennowood is a one bedroom, senior apartment with all of your essentials. One price includes, all three meals, housekeeping, laundry, all utilities, and an emergency call pendant that rings to a nurse that is in the building 24 hours per day. You will also have access to our transportation services as well as wonderful life enrichment programming.

Q. My loved one has dementia, does that mean they need memory care?

A. No, not necessarily. We have many folks in assisted living with mild dementia, but they are not in danger of leaving the building. We assess all of our potential residents before they come to Mennowood to be sure they will receive the appropriate care for their needs. We will discuss the details of that care before you make the decision to bring your loved one to Mennowood.

Q. Are therapy services available at Mennowood?

A. Yes, Mennowood offers physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as pet therapy.

Q. Does Mennowood have a nurse in the building around-the-clock?

A. Yes, Mennowood has a licensed nursing in the building 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Q. Does Mennowood have a doctor available to residents?

A. Yes, Mennowood has a visiting physician available who can do routine visits and diagnostics right here in the building.

Q. Does Mennowood allow power wheelchair/scooters?

A. Yes, many of our residents use power chairs. We allow them as long as they can be used safely.

Q. What is the food like at Mennowood? Do you accommodate special diets?

A. Our food is excellent, and all made in house; we are a true scratch kitchen!  We offer homemade soups every day, and when we serve mashed potatoes, we actually peel and hand mash the potatoes. No heat and serve here. Our kitchen can also accommodate virtually any diet; mechanical soft, pureed, liberalized diabetic, etc. Please contact us for more details or to schedule a visit. Q. Does Mennowood provide transportation for residents?

A. Yes, we offer transportation to medical appointments, shopping, and recreational outings. Our van is fully handicap accessible.

Q. Can family and friends join in the activities at Mennowood?

A. Absolutely! We encourage family involvement whenever possible. The more the merrier!

Q. Is Mennowood for profit or nonprofit?

A. Mennowood is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded by members of the local Mennonite church over 30 years ago to serve people of all faiths as their aging needs progress.

Q. Does Mennowood have upfront fees or a “buy-in”?

A. No, Mennowood only requires a fully refundable security deposit that is equal to one month’s rent.
